Ahead Of Rape Verdict, Ram Rahim Sect Asserts, ‘There Are Lakhs Of Us’
At least two major cities – Chandigarh and Panchkula.Ver – are full blockade as they cling to a verdict tomorrow in the fact that popular spiritual guru and self-styled Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has sexually exploited two followers for almost 15 years.
Almost two lakh followers of Ram Rahim had already assembled in Panchkula, about 250 kms from Chandigarh, where the decision was made tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. Many of them say that they have traveled long distances in the hope of seeing the 50 years.
Ram Rahim, also known as the Bling Guru due to a predilection for jeweled suits, will appear in court for the verdict, as ordered by the judge, remains uncertain.
“Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s health has improved now. He had been ill for some time,” said SK Garg, a lawyer for the sect’s guru, Dera Sach Sauda, who claims to have millions of members.
Yesterday, a spokesman for Dera was offended by Haryana’s chief minister, ML Khattar, saying Ram Rahim would be present at the court.
“Without taking any discussion with us, Prime Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has unfortunately made a statement that Guru Ji (Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh) will be (appear in court) This led to confusion.” Aditya Insan the Dera, Spokesperson, said.
“We have received calls from our fans. I came to know that 8-10 lakh people have reached (Panchkula) and 15-20 lakh additional to get there,” he claimed.

The head of Dera Sacha Sauda, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was asked to appear in court to testify.
Ram Rahm’s main campus is at Sirsa in Haryana, but its popularity crosses the border in many parts of the Punjab. A stadium became a prison in Chandigarh to accommodate followers in the event of violence erupting.
So far, Dera has refused to commit himself to maintaining his peace. A spokesman for the sect, when asked if his head was going to call for calm, offered only this comment: “Guru-ji always talks about humanity and things that benefit humanity.”
The Haryana government said it would seek help from the military, if necessary. Chief Minister Khattar advised all ministers and lawmakers to stay in their districts until the verdict helps prevent violence.
Punjab’s chief minister, Amarinder Singh, ordered 1,000 police officers assigned to VIP protection to manage security for the public for now. Buses and cars are barred from entering Panchkula, where hundreds of thousands of Ram Rahim supporters have already converged, according to the IANS news agency.
The governments of Haryana and Punjab will block mobile Internet services, if necessary, according to the same sources, regarding the allocation of weapons storage, including lathis or wooden sticks in various Dera prayer centers, including a large one in Chandigarh.
The crowd were prevented from joining, schools and colleges are closed in the Punjab, and the center has promised necessary assistance. “We are in regular contact with the governments of Punjab and Haryana.
